Doubles Night

Our club had a doubles game night this past Tuesday.  Phillip and I decided to form Team Angry Elves with my Retribution and his Legion, and we challenged Team Too-Tough-To-Die with Steve's Khador and Jenn's Trollbloods.

The lists were:

Zevanna Agha & Scrapjack

Widowmakers (leader+3)

- Kriel Warrior Caber Thrower
(Incomplete.  Maybe another min unit of Kriel warriors.  There were an awful lot of trolls.)

...versus...

Carnivean
Absylonia, Terror of Everblight, Winds of Change, Tier 1
- Carnivean
- Ravagore
- Typhon
Spawning Vessel (leader+5)
Blighted Nyss Shepherd
Blighted Nyss Shepherd
The Forsaken

Dawnlord Vyros, Dawn's Talon, Tier 3
- Hydra
- Manticore
- Manticore
Arcanist
Arcanist
Dawnguard Sentinels (leader+9+UA)
Dawnguard Sentinels (leader+5+UA)

On my side of the board, Dawnguard charged forward and I loaded up the Hydra for an assassination run on Old Witch turn two.  Dramatically, the dice gods denied two attempts to roll six on three dice, and she slunk back into the shadows.  Steve used his widowmakers and Behemoth to pick off my sentinels as they charged in, and Old Witch's feat to keep them at bay.  He also used Scrapjack's run+arc Gallows+teleport back+charge with Great Bears to go all Office Space on my Hydra.  We kept dancing, and by turn five, Steve was down to five pikemen and his 'jacks and I was down to just my manticores.

On the other side of the board, the trollish colonization army marched inexorably over and through the Legion's finest.  Pygmies obliterated Typhon and a ravagore and most of the spawning vessel team.  Caber throwers took out the carnivean.  It was horrifying.  Pygmies killed Typhon!  And a ravagore.  By the end of turn five, Jenn had lost a half-dozen Kriel warriors and her mauler; Phillip was down to just Absylonia, two shepherds, and an untended pot.

Sentinels with Carnivore (+2 MAT) and Inviolable Resolve (+2 ARM, fearless) on them are just wrong.  That brings them to MAT8 P+S12 reach weapon masters with ARM 20 in base-to-base.  And Vengeance.  But Widowmakers don't care.  Digmies with Madrak's extra-die-of-damage buff are equally wrong.  That brings them to P+S14 plus 4d6 on the charge.  We rolled a ton of dice, and it was awesome.

Odd game, though.  Of the four 'casters, only Old Witch used a feat during the game.  Absylonia's warbeasts melted before she could heal them.  My Dawnguard were never in a position to kill more than three models in a turn.  Madrak never had enough targets for his boys to get their thresher on.  The right situations never materialized.  Also, though my Hydra was obliterated, the four other 'jacks were completely undamaged.  No one even shot at them.  The arcanists had nothing to repair.  And no 'casters took any damage during the entire game (well, Madrak cut for fury one turn, but that doesn't count).

We called it at the bottom of turn five.  What a slugfest.  Go Steve & Jenn!
